“I was born Daniel Coleman, I’m Daniel Coleman now, and I’m gonna die Daniel Coleman…so why not be that as an artist?” says the 24-year-old MC/singer/songwriter/producer about his eventual change of stage name to his birth name. “For years, I changed names to what I thought would be cool or marketable, but now I just wanna do ME.”

dcolemanComing from the Bloomfield neighborhood of Macon, Georgia, Daniel Coleman proudly composes the music that his counterparts often frown on: heartfelt, vulnerable, and pouring with individuality. He has been performing, writing, rapping and singing since he was 13. He would produce songs for a local group of his peers to hone his production craft and would do so until he graduated high school in 2003. After graduation, he attended Savannah State University with a hunger for more book smarts AND more hip-hop. His production became sharper, his lyrics more poignant, and his promotion-savvy heightened. He landed his songs anywhere they could go; among those places, a campus homecoming mixtape and 94.1 the Beat’s Seaport Local Music Show.

Now, with a solid team behind him, he brings what he calls “the best collection of songs I’ve ever made” to the public with The Backpack Music LP, a 12-track manifesto of introspection, self-assurance, and individuality. Alongside it, he has a video to push the album for the song, “Undergraduate”, and a website for his production group, The Musick People Recording Group, which will soon have music from fellow artists Suave Colione, D. Ciano, and Eazy.

“It only takes a second to see the vision…watch the video, listen to the songs, feel the magic…”
