“Got in the game when I was twelve, with the mind-state of a bigger man.” Starting at a young age in Georgia, The Akapella began gaining a rep for being more than meets the eye. By 17, he’d gained a rep in battles for having a sharp tongue and a quick wit for punchlines. Nearing the end of his teens The Akapella was signed to Kandyshop Records before leaving for “an experience where [he'd] be pushed, daily.” He found that in BK Jackson of The SP Agency. An  independent entertainment and brand marketing agency with ties to Kmao Music Group (KMG).

The Doll Daze

theDollDaze

theDollDaze

Who knows what it’s like to be in a daze? I think we all have experienced it from time to time. Stunned and bemused at the sight or sound of whatever you behold. theDOLLDAZE has this effect on her audiences each time she takes the stage. DoLL has never been one to follow the trends. It has always been about just “being”.  She says candidly “Who has a choice in the way God creates you”. Some people do music because it is something that they love but they have no passion behind it. DoLL clearly has the passion of her ancestors and even more an outer-world like spirit behind what she conveys musically. Her shows have been known to create a church like environment. With some of the audience in awe and the others in uproar because of the sheer intensity.dolldaze The style of music she’s crafted has many elements and even she admits she doesn’t know what others make of it but she calls it Indie/Rock/Soul. “I would rather not put a name tag on it but people like a point of reference” she says. Her music exemplifies the blurred genres that the emerging Indie scene in Atlanta brings to the music industry. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA she has a natural southern charm and the accent to match. She has a genuine sweetness that hasn’t been tainted by the rah- rah of the superficial “Black Hollywood” some have come to know Atlanta for. She has a down to earth perspective on life and how to treat people.  She has the true spirit of the GA red clay that exudes whenever you see her. For this reason some say her music takes on a personality of it’s own because it’s seemingly polar opposite of her everyday Atlien way. This is a part of the DAZE element. ATL has a gem and she is surely becoming a favorite for the bubbling scenes around town. Her latest release a EP entitled “Acid Report: the missing peace” has slowly made its way to the ears of audiences in Atl and beyond. One of the fan favorites “Let it Blow” has a tinge of  Latin influence and the tempo changes throw you into a place that catches you off guard at first but then makes you smile after you follow it. The six songs on her EP channel subjects that make you wanna get up and go for your dreams like in “2040″ or even scream and thrust your head back and forth like in “the Hard Way”.  Her goal was to introduce a portion of  her  sound to audiences so they get a small taste of what lies ahead for the dazed

one. doll theDOLLDAZE’s newest musical endeavor is a romantic tale entitled “Mystic Novel” a short film/novel concept album.  She can’t say to much about it besides it’s a sort of period based semi-psychotic love story. The artwork and song snippets for the first passage will be released in  late winter or early spring of 2010.  She assures you will not be disappointed.

Artist Statement

“My paintings are representative of the spirit of us all.  I use the Abstract/Surrealism styles to get my point across.  The point that we are so different but yet the same, shown with many colors and textures, and shapes, yet coming from one thought source.  My colors are vibrant, just as our spirits use to be as children.  The textures are the physical aspect of our world which makes the paintings life like.  The shapes are every where and just plain enjoyable; hence, we are all very colorful, physical, and shapely which I convey in an abstract/surreal fashion.

Each painting goes through a long process of thought, color selection, medium choices, and imagery.  My artwork is there to please, provoke conversation, thought and visual enjoyment

SIMP

artist-pic-simp

Hailing just 22 miles SE of Washington, D.C. from the city of Waldorf, MD, emerges an emcee named SIMP who is poised to carry on the old-school, funk and soul-filled hip-hop torch dropped by his counterparts. Recently established as co-owner of Atlanta record label, Beat Studios Productions, he now has the perfect avenue to channel his creative vision. This alumni of Hampton University cites his upbringing in an area best known in hip-hop for its energetic “Go-Go” percussion, for the influence that led to his pursuit of making music. “I began spinning records for local parties when I was 14 years old,” he said. “So I had to listen to everything and I developed a broad taste in music.”

challenger8His favorite emcees include Nas and Lupe Fiasco, but the influence of the rap pioneers that starred in the soundtrack of his youth shine through in his recordings and live performances. While his names derives from the word simple (meaning easy to solve or understand, not complicated), SIMP the emcee, is anything but. “A lot of people called me simple when I was growing up so I rolled with it,” states the 23 year old rapper. “I picked it because life can be simple yet complicated in its simplicity.” Some songs lyrically illustrate that concept as he gracefully and rhythmically tells his stories of love, loss, racism and faith. Other songs of his , showcase his wit, and ring with such exuberant energy that they will SIMPly raise the spirit and arouse the body.
